Which Spill Kit Do I Need?
Choosing the right spill kit depends on what substances you handle and where the spill is most likely to occur. Here’s a quick guide:
| Kit Type | Use for | Typical applications |
| General Purpose | Water, oils, coolants, most non-aggressive liquids | Workshops, manufacturing, warehouses |
| Oil & Fuel Only | Petroleum-based oils and fuels — repels water | Fuel storage areas, outdoor spills, near waterways |
| Hazchem / Chemical | Acids, alkalis, solvents, aggressive chemicals | Chemical storage, labs, manufacturing with solvents |

FAQ...
Spill kits should be checked regularly — at least monthly — and restocked immediately after any use. Absorbent products that have been contaminated must be disposed of correctly and replaced. Even unused kits should be replaced if absorbent materials become damp or degraded. KPL supplies refill kits for all sizes so restocking is quick and easy.
Yes. The Work Health and Safety regulations in Queensland require that any business storing or handling hazardous substances — including common oils and fuels — has appropriate spill response measures in place. The size and type of kit required will depend on the volume and nature of the substances you store. A 30 litre general purpose kit is a practical starting point for small workshops.
A spill bund (or bunding) is a permanent or semi-permanent containment structure placed around drums, IBCs or storage tanks to capture any leaks or spills before they spread. A spill kit is a portable response kit used to clean up a spill once it has occurred. Best practice is to use bunding for prevention and keep spill kits on hand for fast response.
